I'm fired up this week, watching how impossible it seems to get legislation for paid leave through Congress.
At my old job, we had to fight like hell to get 3 days of parental leave. 3 days! For some employees, they might not have even been out of the hospital yet and they are already required to burn PTO or use unpaid time. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. I get that. It's really freaking hard and you have to have the vision and the drive to make it work. However the systems we have in place currently in business do not support women, they do not support women of color, they do not support parents. I have found that entrepreneurship is a better way to support you in the living the life you want to live. In designing an aligned life so that you can support your family AND have the flexibility you want and need. While giving space for the dreams in your heart to grow. If you are a leader of an organization or even a member of one, and you are not actively working to make sure that those systems are inclusive and inviting to all people, ALL PEOPLE, not just the people in power, you aren't using your leadership for good. You're not. There is more you can do. And if you are an entrepreneur, coach, business owner - you have a responsibility too to make your offerings and work environment inclusive too. BUILD THE TABLE YOU WANT TO BE AT. It's that simple. Here's what I know to be true: when women have more money, they have more power, it benefits more people. They do good with that. My mission is to help more women get to a place where they have more money and more power, whether it's through creating business that are sustainable, strong, and profitable, or through leadership development and helping you with the skills you need to grow into a better leader for you and your organization. That's the magic. My spark. My pledge to you.
